I arrived into Sheridan, Wyoming at 11:30pm on a tiny plane. JoeMac picked me up and we drank coors lite on our drive out to the ranch. I had met him at a hot spring in Montana and he promised to show me "some real cowboy shit". I flew in to photograph a cattle branding and I was meant to stay 5 days with him but fate would have otherwise. He handed me three loaded guns upon our arrival to his house. It was 40 degrees outside, I was a mile walk to the nearest freeway, and an hour drive from the next town on a ranch bordering Crow Reservation. I held my knife under my pillow that night. We drove around the Bighorns for two days drinking, chased down and tagged some newborn calves and shot guns. A looming blizzard canceled the branding and I waited out the storm alone in a Best Western.
